Guyana tours & tickets

What can honestly be booked online, ranked — and how everything else in Guyana is arranged.

We would rather be plain about this: GetYourGuide’s coverage of Guyana is very thin. When we checked its partner feed there were ten products in the whole country — a Kaieteur Falls flight, an Essequibo River day trip, three Georgetown city tours, three airport or city transfers, a transport service to Suriname and one ten-day overland package. All ten are listed on this page. We have not padded the list with tours from other countries.

That small list does include the two day trips most visitors want, and booking them online before you arrive is sensible: Kaieteur flights only operate when enough seats are sold, so the earlier your booking is in the system the better. Everything beyond that — Iwokrama, the canopy walkway, the Rupununi lodges, Shell Beach — is arranged through local tour operators or the lodges themselves. Each destination guide has a “how to book locally” section, and there is a summary at the foot of this page.

How to book the rest of Guyana

The interior works on a simple system. A small number of Georgetown-based tour operators put together complete trips: domestic flights or 4x4 transfers, lodges, guides and meals, priced per person. The lodges and community tourism projects also take bookings directly, usually by email or WhatsApp, and will tell you which flights or road transfers to connect with. Either way:

  • Start early. Two to three months ahead is comfortable for the dry seasons; lodges are small and aircraft seats few.
  • Expect package pricing. Rates are normally per person per night and include meals and guided activities; transfers are quoted separately and can cost as much as the stay.
  • Ask what happens if a flight is cancelled. Weather and minimum passenger numbers affect schedules, so build in a buffer day before your international flight.
  • Pay attention to how you pay. Bank transfer or cash in US dollars is common; cards are not always accepted.

The Guyana Tourism Authority publishes a list of licensed operators and lodges, which is the best starting point for comparing them. See also our transport guide and itineraries.

Good to know

Booking tours in Guyana: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Why are there so few Guyana tours online?

Tourism here is small — only a modest number of leisure visitors reach the interior each year — and most trips are tailor-made by local operators. Only a few businesses list on international platforms.

Should I book the Kaieteur Falls flight before I arrive?

Yes. Flights run on the days when enough passengers have booked, most reliably at weekends. Booking ahead helps a departure reach its minimum and lets you plan the rest of the trip around it.

What happens if my Kaieteur flight is cancelled?

Operators normally move you to the next available departure or refund you, according to the terms of the booking. Leave at least one free day afterwards so a postponement does not cost you the trip.

Can I visit the interior on day trips from Georgetown?

Kaieteur and the lower Essequibo, yes. Iwokrama, the Rupununi and Shell Beach need overnight stays — usually three nights or more to justify the journey.

Are prices on this site exact?

No. The “from” prices come from GetYourGuide’s feed in euros on the day we checked and are only a guide; the listing shows the live price in your own currency.
