Surama & Annai Tours & Tickets

Surama and Rock View are booked directly or through operators. Nothing here is sold on GetYourGuide — this is how to arrange it.

At Surama the village assigns you a guide for your stay and the programme is agreed on arrival: the mountain, the river, forest trails, a night walk, the village itself. Fees go into a community fund as well as to the guides, cooks and boatmen.

Rock View offers dawn walks on the hill behind the lodge, birding in its grounds, horse riding, visits to Annai and nearby villages, and excursions to the Wowetta cock-of-the-rock trail and the Rupununi River. It also acts as an informal travel desk for the whole north Rupununi.

Bookable online from Georgetown

GetYourGuide lists only a handful of Guyana products, nearly all starting in Georgetown. These are the real ones.

A note on what you can book online

GetYourGuide has no listings for Surama, Annai or anywhere in the north Rupununi. The products below start in Georgetown and are shown for the days at either end of your trip.

Surama & Annai: how to book locally

Write to Surama Eco-Lodge and Rock View Lodge by email; both are used to arranging flights into Annai, road transfers from Iwokrama and boats to Rewa or Karanambu. Georgetown operators include both in almost every interior itinerary.

Other villages nearby — Wowetta, Aranaputa, Rupertee, Kwatamang — run their own trails and small guesthouses through the North Rupununi District Development Board, based at Bina Hill near Annai. Arrange visits a few days ahead through Rock View, Surama or Visit Rupununi so that a guide is ready.

Surama & Annai tours: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn up at Surama without a booking?

It is strongly discouraged. The lodge is run by villagers who need notice to prepare rooms, food and guides, and the turn-off is five miles from the main road.

Is Surama a “real” village?

Yes. People farm, hunt, teach and go to church as they would without visitors; the lodge is set a little apart so village life is not disrupted.

Are activities included in the price?

Normally the nightly rate covers meals and guided activities, with a separate village or community fee. Confirm when you book.
