Reaching Lethem
See getting to the Rupununi for flights from Ogle, the overland minibus through Linden and Iwokrama, and arrival from Brazil over the Takutu bridge.
From Lethem to the foothills
Unpaved tracks lead from Lethem and St Ignatius to Moco Moco, Kumu and Nappi. In the dry season an ordinary taxi can manage the nearer falls; a 4x4 is needed for Nappi and for anywhere after rain. Arrange for the driver to wait or return, as there is no passing traffic to rely on.
Into the mountains
Beyond the villages you go on foot, with porters if camping, or by boat on the Rupununi and its tributaries. These trips need an outfitter or the village tourism committee, and usually a few days’ preparation.
