New Amsterdam, Berbice & the Corentyne: When to Go

When to visit Berbice and the Corentyne: seasons, harvests and festivals.

The climate matches Georgetown’s, with two rainy seasons and constant warmth. The road is paved and open all year, so timing is a matter of comfort and festivals rather than access.

Season by season

February to April: dry season

The best weather for the beach and for boat trips, with Phagwah in March and kite flying at Easter.

May to mid-August: long rains

Heavy showers and green rice fields. Low-lying areas can flood after prolonged rain.

Mid-August to November: second dry season

Hot and dry; the second rice crop is harvested and Diwali lights the villages.

December and January: short rains

Showery and festive, with many families visiting from abroad.
